A Tale of Two Styles

Tyler, age six, was watching a video of the Power Rangers. He took great delight as his heroes trounced the villains. Watching some of the violence, I asked whether the mothers of the bad guys would feel sad if they saw their sons being hurt. Tyler looked at me incredulously. "Bad guys don't have mothers!" He shook his head in wonderment. His strong opinion about bad guys remains in place. Another opinion may be forming: Granddad can sure ask some dumb questions.

This column contrasts two styles of relating to the truth. The popular style is the way of opinion, in which we act as though we have the truth. Our call is to another style, the way of transformation, in which the truth comes to have us. Do you want to be ready for life? The way of transformation is the better way.
